They say do what makes you happy. They also say sometimes you just need to focus on you. I don’t know who ‘they’ are, but ‘they’ seem very wise.
Nothing makes me happier in life than art in all its glorious forms – painting, photography, music, dance, theater, television and film. When surrounded by art and artists I am inspired. Inspired and rejuvenated to create my own art, to focus on the positive aspects of life and to try to make the world a better place.
I honestly can not choose which art form is my favorite. They all have their time and space and they all lend their importance to who I am as a human being. Music, television and film are the most easily accessible to me in my everyday life. Music is always playing. There is always a song in my head. The television is always on, as they say (there ‘they’ are again) and I love finding new shows to grow with or fall back on some classics to comfort me. Film is not as easily accessible to me as music and television, but it is an art form that I wish I could spent many more hours with. Throughout my almost 49 years of life, film has made me laugh, made me cry, inspired me to conquer demons, pulled me through low times and made me realize that there is only one short life we have on this planet, so live it how you want to live it.
2020 is fast approaching. Most of us have made resolutions at the end of one year and the beginning of another to do something different, new or exciting with our lives. Whether it is to lose weight and join a gym or promise to make someone laugh on a daily basis, the idea of starting a new year with a goal can help us get through the often tough times life seems to offer. I have never been one of those ‘resolutions’ kind of a person. But I am a goal oriented person. So with the new decade about to start, I am setting a goal for myself. One that will both make me happy as well as allow me to focus on me.
So in 2020, I am going to watch a film every day. Then I am going to write about it here on this blog. The films are going to be my favorite or most influential films, so it won’t be the first time I’m watching them. (For some, it will be over the 100th time. ) They will be watched and written about from 365 to 1, with 1 being my all time favorite film. I hope to write about the who, what, why and how of each film with a little personal introspect of why I love it so much. Now for those in the ‘know’, 2020 is a leap year so there may just be a bonus movie on February 29, 2020.
If successful, I hope to continue in 2021 with more films to watch and share on this blog.
As much as I am doing this little project for myself, I do hope this makes readers watch a movie they haven’t seen. Or learn something about me that in turn makes them learn something about themselves. Or it inspires them to create their own goal for the start of the new decade. Or, better yet, it reinvigorates what they are passionate about.
In other words, I hope ‘they’ like it.
See you January 1, 2020.
